Termite Control

Local Termite & Pest Control can stop termites before they destroy your home or property.

Kentucky is home to the Eastern Subterranean Termite. Termites annually cause over $2 Billion Dollars of property damage in North America. A mature termite colony can range from 20,000 workers to several million. Subterranean termites often go unnoticed for years causing hidden damage to your structure and are noticed only during a thorough home inspection or when there is swarm event. During a termite swarm the winged reproductive termites emerge from their tunnels behind walls or under floors. They typically swarm after a rain and will quickly drop their wings. If you are seeing swarms in your home, then you have a mature termite colony and immediate treatment is needed to prevent further damage. Local Termite & Pest Control recommends a complete inspection to locate any damage and a professionally done treatment to effectively eliminate the colony.

Signs of Termite Infestations:

  • Termite Swarms: The most obvious sign and often the first time that people become aware that they have termites is when they swarm in the Spring and early Summer months after a rain. Swarming termites are the winged reproductive alates that come from a mature termite colony. They will stage themselves in tubes and wait for the proper moment to burst forth, often in large numbers. They will quickly land and drop their wings as they look to pair,
re-enter the soil and start a new colony. If you do not see the swarm itself, you can often find signs such as piles of dropped wings and exit holes in drywall where they have emerged.

  • Shelter Tubes/Mud Tubes: Since subterranean termites nest underground and forage up to their food source, which is often a home or garage. Pen-sized tubes can be found wherever the ground meets your homes foundation. Since termites require a warm humid environment to survive these mud tunnels work as transit systems for the termites to travel from your home back to their colony in the soil.

  • Structural Damage: Structural damage can often be found behind surfaces like walls, floors, ceilings and more. Termites cause this damage by hollowing out the wood in floor joist, studs and seal plates of your building.
